Requisiti
- Joomla 5.x o 6.x
- PHP 8.1 o superiore
Installazione
- Scarica
kautoreadmore.zipe installalo da Sistema → Installa → Estensioni → Carica pacchetto. - Vai in Sistema → Gestione → Plugin, cerca "KAutoReadMore" e abilita "Contenuti - KAutoReadMore": come ogni nuovo plugin parte disabilitato.
Come funziona

KAutoReadMore documentation
KAutoReadMore automatically shortens the text of articles that have no "Read more" split and adds the button, in blog, list and featured views. For the product overview and download, see the KAutoReadMore page.
Requirements
- Joomla 5.x or 6.x
- PHP 8.1 or later
Installation
- Download
kautoreadmore.zipand install it from System → Install → Extensions → Upload Package File. - Go to System → Manage → Plugins, search for "KAutoReadMore" and enable "Content - KAutoReadMore": like every new plugin it starts disabled.
- Open the plugin to adjust the options. The defaults suit most sites.
Updates arrive from System → Update → Extensions.
How it works
- In category blog, category list and featured views, when an article has no "Read more" split and its text exceeds the limit, the plugin shortens it and adds the button.
- It never cuts a word or an HTML tag in half: bold text, links and lists stay properly closed.
- The button uses Joomla's native layout, so it looks exactly like a manual "Read more", template overrides included.
- Articles with a manual split are left alone (unless "Ignore manual 'Read more' splits" is on).
- The single-article page is never changed.
Options
Default values in brackets.
- Truncation mode (Characters): the limit is in characters or in words.
- Character limit (300, 20 to 5000) or Word limit (60, 5 to 1000): the maximum length of the visible text.
- Minimum savings to truncate (30): if the cut would remove less than this, the text stays whole. Avoids cutting two words just to add a button. 0 disables the check.
- Truncation text (…): appended to the shortened text, for example "…" or "[continues]".
- Ignore manual 'Read more' splits (No): when on, automatic truncation applies to every article, including those with a manual split. Useful for uniform excerpt lengths.
- Excluded categories and Excluded articles (by ID): never shortened. The article ID is shown in the article list or in the edit URL (
…&id=42). - Read more button alignment (Left): left, center or right.
- Apply to Featured Articles view (Yes) and Apply to Category Blog/List views (Yes).
FAQ
The button does not appear. Check that the plugin is enabled, that the view is enabled in the options and that the text really exceeds the limit plus the minimum savings. Also check that the menu item does not hide the "Read More" link or in the article or category options ("Read More" set to Show): the plugin respects that setting.
Two buttons appear. This only happens when the template or another plugin adds its own button: KAutoReadMore does not act on articles that already have a manual split.
Uninstalling
Uninstall "Content - KAutoReadMore" from System → Manage → Extensions. The plugin never changes saved articles: truncation only happens when pages are displayed, so after uninstalling the texts are shown as before.
